IKFT at EuropaCat 2025 in Trondheim

A large group of researchers from KIT attended the 16th European Congress on Catalysis (EuropaCat 2025) in Trondheim, Norway (31.08 to 05.09.2025). Professors, postdoctoral and doctoral researchers from IKFT, as well as ITCP and ITC, contributed with posters, oral presentations, and a plenary lecture, showcasing the catalysis research at KIT.
Prof. Jan-Dierk Grunwaldt (ITCP/IKFT) delivered a plenary talk on “Dynamics in catalysis: From the atomic structure to the reactor scale”, highlighting the importance to study catalysts at work with operando spectroscopy and using the knowledge on catalyst dynamics for designing better catalysts in the field of emission control and sustainable production of chemicals and fuels. Several researchers presented with oral contributions to the conference, including two talks from Prof. Silke Behrens, Dr. Johanna Schröder, Dr. Vasyl Marchuk (former colleague), Dr. Lucas Warmuth, Lorena Baumgarten, Leonardo Almeida de Campos, Rabia Ilica, Maya Eyleen Ludwig, Angelina Barthelmeß, and Fabian Neumann. The contributions covered a wide spectrum of catalysis research, ranging from intermetallic compounds, electrocatalysis, emission control, CO₂ activation, methanol synthesis, refinery chemicals, syngas conversion, methanation, sustainable fuels and fine chemicals. In addition, Prof. Grunwaldt and Dr. Linda Klag organized a special symposium on ‘Catalysis and reactors under dynamic conditions for energy storage and conversion’.
The active participation of KIT research groups—Grunwaldt, Behrens, Wolf, Sauer, Deutschmann, and Stapf—underlined the contribution from KIT in catalysis research and its role in advancing sustainable energy and chemical technologies.
