Novel Catalyst Materials

The research group works on the development of heterogeneous catalysts for applications in energy-related catalysis and fine chemistry. Beside conventional catalyst preparation (impregnation, pH controlled precipitation, co-precipitation) also advanced techniques, such as flame spray pyrolysis (FSP), hydro- and solvothermal synthesis or robot-assisted methods are applied both at IKFT and the Institute for Chemical Technology and Polymer Chemistry (ITCP) in the frame of the chair in Chemical Technology and Catalysis (Prof. Grunwaldt).

Catalytic target reactions cover a broad range of batch and continuous lab scale processes. Beside the optimization of reaction parameters by thorough catalytic screening, our work aims at the identification of structure-activity correlations. This requires comprehensive characterization of catalysts both before and after catalytic testing as well as the implementation of advanced in situ spectroscopic tools (further information: spectroscopy group at IKFT).
