Scale-up of Catalytic Processes

The focuses of the workgroup "Scale-up of Catalytic Processes" are on balancing and dimensioning of machines, apparatuses and reactors of different sizes. This includes plant capacities from laboratory equipment up to the PDU (Processing Demonstration Unit). The group also deals with the determination of kinetic parameters for catalytic reactions in heterogeneous catalysis. For this different reactors are available in the laboratory scale: Fixed Bed Reactor, Berty Reactor, Slurry Reactor, high-pressure autoclaves and a Tap Reactor. The "MOSYS" plant, a PDU scale plant can be used for catalytic conversions with gas recycle with pressures to 80 bar and temperatures from up to 300°C. In the "MOSYS" synthesis gas can be transformed up to 12 m3 per hour. As reactor models a classical Tube Bundle Reactor with plug flow and a Tap Reactor are available for this. With the "MOSYS" it is possible to test the performance of heterogeneous catalysts under industrial conditions.

Process modeling

To the modeling of different processes computer tools are used like MatLab, ASPEN, PRESTO and ANSYS.
