Applied Nano Chemistry

Nanostructures represent an intermediate regime between the bulk solid and a molecule and exhibit distinct optical, electronic, catalytic, and magnetic properties due to large surface areas and quantum confinement effects. We are interested in preparation, organization, characterization, and the catalytic and magnetic properties of nanostructures, in particular metal nanoparticles and wires. Special attention is devoted to metal organic routes involving novel precursors and biomimetic procedures based on biotemplates. We study the properties of the materials for application in catalytic processes and as magnetic fluids / magnetic composites for technical and biomedical application.
